Burritos

California: A Place to Enjoy Delicious Food

Burritos

Did You Know No. 2: Why Burritos are So Yummy?

Everybody loves burritos – a soft wheat flour tortilla stuffed with rich meat, refried beans, Mexican –style rice/plain rice, cheese, sour cream, salsa, lettuce, and other ingredients. The best Mexican food in California can be found in the South Bay. Of course, burritos are included in this list! The best burritos in town can be bought at El Gringo, Amigos Tacos, and El Burrito Jr. While more and more people are discovering the exquisite taste of burritos, only few of them really knows where it came from or how it was discovered.

How Burritos Are Created

Generally, burritos consist of flour tortilla folded or wrapped (in a cylindrical shape) in order to enclose the fillings. The tortilla flour is usually steamed or lightly grilled in order to make it pliable and soft. While most of the burritos sold in restaurants nowadays have several ingredients, refried beans and meat are sometimes the only ingredients in Mexican burritos. American-style burritos are known to have more ingredients as fillings compared to Mexican-style burritos.

Burritos and Its Yummy History

There are a lot of stories suggesting the discovery of burritos in history. One of the folk story states that a man named Juan Mendez sold tacos in the street using his donkey as a transport for the food and himself. To keep the food warm, he wrapped it in tortilla flour. The word “burrito” means little donkey and in Spanish, burro means donkey hence the name “burrito” was coined for the tacos he sold.

On the other hand, another story came suggesting that a street food vendor once sold tortilla wrapped food to poor children in a state-run middle school. The vendor calls the children his burritos and later on this term of endearment became the name of the food he sells. The two folk stories above may have brought the burritos we know today.

Does eating too many burritos causes you tooth problems? Don’t Worry! Beach Braces is here to help. Contact us at: 310 – 379 – 0006.

What are the Benefits of Lingual Braces?

Beach braces

Celeste via Compfight cc

People seeking dental treatment today are markedly different from patients a few decades ago, when saving one’s teeth from tooth decay or preventing tooth loss was of more importance. Children were often the recipients of braces in a desperate bid to straighten their teeth What has become far more important these days is how adults are able to improve their appearance through the use of modern orthodontic techniques. Clear braces, such as lingual braces, have attracted people’s attention more and more as a solution.

Lingual braces are often referred to as invisible braces and attract those people who want to improve their facial appearance and their smile but don’t want others to know they are doing this. As they are attached to the inner surfaces of the teeth, they can barely be seen even up-close. Besides their invisible characteristics, lingual braces do offer other benefits. They are able to do quite complicated movements such as correcting rotations, altering the teeth’s height, and closing spaces caused by extractions.

Lingual braces do have their challenges. It takes a few days or even up to a fortnight to get used to them being so close to the tongue. The wires and brackets may feel slightly rough to begin with and could have a slight effect on your speech, but the recipient soon becomes adjusted to the inconveniences of lingual braces and looks forward to the eventual outcome of wearing them for so long.

If your current job restricts your ability to wear braces or you simply want to cover up the fact that you are having braces treatment then you will benefit greatly from lingual braces. 3D imaging  and diagnosis software, along with robotically made wires, are the fundamental keys to lingual orthodontics today.

If your teeth are crooked or even just a little bit out of place, then lingual braces are a great way to correct those noticeable deficiencies and enable the recipients to smile and open their mouth with confidence, particularly after the treatment process has been completed. Contact beach braces today for the appointment and taking a first step towards a perfect smile.

What is the Right Age to Take your Kids to an Orthodontists?

Age 7 is the Best Time See a Child’s Orthodontist

Orthodontics

Visiting a dentist to check for the early signs of tooth decay should be done as soon as a parent is confident that their child can handle the situation and this applies to visits to an orthodontist too. If there is any sign of misalignment developing in the child’s teeth then this should be addressed as soon as possible. A treatment program started early will ensure any corrections are made with the best outcome and at a lower cost than later in life. Watch the video by Beach Braces to find the answer to the question: Can Orthodontic Treatment be completed on patients with baby teeth?

The American Association of Orthodontists suggests that a child should have his or her first orthodontic evaluation as soon as any orthodontic problem is noticed and at least by the age of 7. This is because by 7 years old the first molars start to erupt, which determines the back bite. This is when an orthodontist can assess side to side and front to back tooth interactions.  For example, when incisors start to erupt it could mean open bite, possible overbite, crowding and gummy smiles.

Intercepting teeth development in their early stages can:

  • Create a room for erupted teeth that may cause overcrowding
  • Have an influence on jaw growth leading to better facial symmetry
  • Allow enough space for unerupted teeth
  • Lower trauma risk to front teeth that are protruding
  • Lower the necessity to undertake tooth removal and decrease the treatment time through the use of braces

Improving the facial appearance and the smile is all part of the orthodontic treatment processes but there are other improvements that can be made to the functioning of the mouth and teeth through orthodontics. This is orthodontic treatment for a bad bite, which is often called malocclusion. A malocclusion occurs when there is misalignment in the tooth or jaw. A malocclusion can have a variety of effects, including altering how you smile, your chewing motion and how you go about cleaning your teeth.

American Association of Orthodontists’ studies indicate that untreated malocclusions can lead to difficulties when brushing and flossing crowded teeth. The result is a greater likelihood of the onset of tooth decay and more severe gum disease. Protruding teeth can be chipped and damaged more easily. Cross bites can lead to poor growth and the uneven wearing of teeth. Open bites can lead to the habit of tongue-thrusting habits and the onset of speech impediments.

Life can be so much easier later on for your child if an orthodontic assessment is arranged by the age of 7 years at least. Request for your child’s first appointment with Beach Braces now.

Whiten Your Teeth

white teeth

Words of Wisdom No.10: “Conceal with Color“

There are a lot of ways to make your teeth whiter. Using baking soda once a week in order to remove stains in one of the most commonly known techniques. Other techniques include the use of apple cider vinegar as it serves the same purpose with baking soda. For those who don’t want to use natural remedies, you can always consult your orthodontist for a good bleaching agent.

While the steps above take time before you could see the results, there are some other ways to get immediate results. Among them is the use of tricks. Although it doesn’t whiten your teeth directly, it gives you an illusion of whiter teeth. Good news is that ladies can always have this secret ingredient in their bags. Bad news is that this trick is only applicable for ladies.

Ladies should choose a medium coral or light red lipstick and apply daily. If you conceal the color of your lips, your teeth might look whiter if you know which color to choose. You should avoid using light-colored lipstick as it tends to bring out the yellowish color of your teeth. So if you want to make your teeth look whiter immediately, then use medium to dark shades.

This lipstick trick works daily but it doesn’t mean you’re going to stop doing everything you could in order to make your teeth whiter. It is always a better option if you can apply the permanent solution rather than just the band aid solution.

Dr Panucci specializes in teeth whitening using the latest technologies including Opalescense and Treswhite, contact us today for a free consultation.

Brush Your Teeth Twice A Day

brushing teeth

Words of Wisdom No.9: “Brush Your Teeth When You First Get Out of Bed and Before You Get Back In at Night“

Sleeping allows you to take rest for six to eight hours a day. It also means that you won’t be able to brush your teeth during that time hence bacteria accumulate as you sleep. When you wake up in the morning, you might smell a very bad odor because of the bacterial growth inside your mouth hence you need to immediately brush your teeth when you get out of bed.

Kathleen W. Wilson, M.D., (an internist at the Ochsner Health Center in New Orleans and author of “When You Think You Are Falling Apart”) said that there are two most crucial times for brushing your teeth. Since saliva dries up at night it is best to remove all plaque before going to sleep. Saliva keeps cavity causing plaque off your teeth. She also stressed that brushing your teeth first thing in the morning is recommended in order to brush off all the plaque accumulated during the night.

Therefore, you need to brush your teeth when you first get out of bed and before you get back in at night in order to make sure you are keeping your teeth and gums healthy all the time. Not being able to follow these steps religiously might cause your teeth to fall out even if you’re too young to look like grandma or grandpa. Doing so might take time every day but it is the only way to ensure that you get to keep your teeth in the future.

Flossing Teeth With Your Eyes Shut

flossing teeth with your eyes shut

Words of Wisdom No.8: “Practice Flossing with Your Eyes Shut“

Flossing teeth is necessary after eating. It helps you remove stuck food in between your teeth which is very uncomfortable if not removed. Make sure to carry around floss in your bag, your car, your desk, or even in your pocket. This comes in very handy especially if you don’t have the time to brush your teeth after eating lunch. Aside from floss, you can also bring mouthwash or a sugar-free mint in order to make sure you restore the freshness of your breath.

As flossing is a good way to remove stuck food particles in your mouth, not being able to do so because there are no mirrors is also a common hindrance. If your office doesn’t have mirrors in the bathroom or anywhere, then don’t just accept the fact that you can’t floss. There are actually a lot of things you can do and flossing without a mirror can be one of them.

You need to practice flossing with your eyes shut. You need to memorize your mouth, your teeth, gums, and everything else. If you have the skill of flossing even with your eyes shut, then you’re not going to need any mirror while doing it anywhere. You can freely floss in your car, in the pantry, or barely anywhere. This skill really comes in handy if you find yourself surrounded with people all the time or if you find it hard to look for mirrors in your workplace.

Stay Fresh!

Words of Wisdom No.7: “Stay Fresh“

During a busy day, you might not have the time to brush your teeth as often as you want. Even though you are following the guidelines for brushing your teeth around two to four times daily, you might still find your breath smelly. So what do you need to do in order to avoid this? You don’t want to greet your major investors with a bad breath during your meeting but you don’t have the time to brush your teeth before the meeting either.

Buying a Mouth Wash

The solution is simple. Keep an alcohol-free mouth wash on you all the time. Gargling with mouth wash always saves you your precious time compared to brushing your teeth. Besides, if you don’t bring your toothbrush with you every day, then keeping a mouthwash at your side comes in very handy. When buying a mouth wash, making sure it is alcohol-free should be part of your criteria. Too much alcohol can dry out the tissues of your mouth making it more susceptible with bacteria.

So how do you know if it’s time to gargle with mouth wash? The simple step would be to lick your palm and smell it while it’s still wet. If you don’t smell anything then you are still good to go but if you smell something, then it’s time to bring that mouth wash out. In emergency situations where you don’t have a toothbrush or a mouth wash, you can resort to a sugar-free breath mint. It gives temporary effect of freshness and can help eliminate odor.
