Does the Six Month Smiles Orthodontic Treatment Actually Work?

Misshapen teeth can worsen the appearance of your teeth and create issues with your confidence. When you’re looking for the right solution that will provide you with a better smile, one treatment option that you might want to consider is the Six Month Smiles treatment. This smile treatment is designed to provide you with straighter teeth in a short period of time. While this treatment may seem like something that’s too good to be true, it does actually work as long as you have realistic expectations about what the treatment will do for your smile.

What Is the Six Month Smiles Orthodontic Treatment?

This is a type of orthodontic treatment that’s aimed solely at straightening the front portions of your upper and lower rows of teeth. Although the goal of this treatment is to provide you with a better smile in six months, the treatment times can vary depending on the extent of your orthodontic problems. This treatment solution uses a combination of clear brackets and metallic wires that are tooth-colored and made from nickel and titanium. When you’re suffering from some type of orthodontic problem, this Six Month Smile treatment can be applied to such issues as:

  • Open bites and overbites
  • Reverse smile lines
  • Crowded teeth
  • Overbites and underbites

Once the brackets have been applied to your teeth, a small amount of pressure will be applied to the teeth in order to move them into the correct position. You will likely be required to visit our orthodontic offices every four weeks or so in order to have the wires tightened. While the brackets used with this treatment are designed to remain on your teeth for anywhere from 4-9 months, this treatment time can last longer if the brackets aren’t tightened on schedule.

Pros and Cons of Six Month Smiles

The main benefit that you’ll receive with this treatment is that it will be completed in a period of around six months, which is substantially shorter than the 12-18 month treatment period with braces and Invisalign solutions. Completing your treatment quickly will provide you with a better smile in a short amount of time. You’ll also benefit from the fact that this treatment uses brackets that are meant to blend in with your teeth. The brackets that are used with standard braces typically come in a highly visible silver color that can be unsightly. The clear brackets that are used with Six Month Smiles provide you with a teeth straightening solution that won’t adversely affect your appearance. The quick treatment time provided by Six Month Smiles is also reflected in the cost that you’ll be required to pay. Given that the duration of the Six Month Smiles treatment is around six months, the costs that you pay should be substantially lower when compared to other orthodontic solutions.

While there is a wide range of fantastic benefits that you’ll be provided with when using the Six Month Smiles treatment, there are also some issues that you should be aware of. Given the fact that this treatment only applies to the front teeth, it may not provide you with the results that you’re looking for if you have more significant alignment issues. If the sides of your upper or lower rows of teeth are affected by substantial alignment problems, you may want to consider other orthodontic treatments. You also need to have the right expectations when going into this type of treatment. Make sure that you ask your orthodontist about what the exact results of this treatment will be so that you don’t set your expectations too high. If you are unsatisfied with the results of the Six Month Smiles treatment, the only option available to you is to select the treatment for a second time, which will cost you both time and money.

Does This Treatment Actually Work?

This treatment can be the perfect orthodontic solution for you as long as you fully understand what you’re getting. This treatment works exactly as it’s supposed to. In most cases, the brackets and wires that come with this treatment will be kept on your teeth for six months or less, after which your front teeth should be fully straightened. While the treatment can last as long as nine months, the brackets shouldn’t be kept on your teeth any longer than this, which means that your teeth will be straightened much quicker than would be the case with other treatments.

How Can Invisalign Straighten an Adult’s Teeth?

Because of the short treatment time with this solution, it’s unable to treat severe orthodontic problems, which is why you’ll need to ask your orthodontist  about whether or not you’re a good candidate for this treatment. As touched upon previously, the success of Six Month Smiles largely depends on your expectations. While the six month treatment time is likely very appealing for you, the treatment doesn’t actually move your teeth more rapidly than other orthodontic solutions. The reason why this treatment can be completed in a much shorter time frame is that the brackets are only applied to the front portion of the upper and lower rows of your teeth. Since a lower amount of movements need to be made, the treatment can be finished in a much more expedited manner.

If you want to be confident that this treatment will work for you, it’s important that you choose a reputable orthodontist such as ours. While the Six Month Smiles treatment is known to be an effective one that can provide you with a more beautiful smile, the results of the treatment are only as good as the orthodontist who works on your teeth while the treatment is ongoing. The wires will need to be tightened regularly and any problems with this teeth straightening solution must be caught early before they do additional damage, which is why an experienced orthodontist is essential to the success of the Six Month Smiles treatment.
