What Kind of Retainer After Braces is Better, Clear Plastic or Wire?

After someone undergoes orthodontic treatment and has their braces removed, it is recommended they wear a retainer to prevent the teeth from shifting position. The two most common kinds are clear plastic and wire, and there are benefits and downsides to both types.

Did You Know No. 1: Beverley Hills 90210 – A Blast from the Past

Beverly Hills 90210 is a hit American drama series aired from October 4, 1990 up to May 17, 2000. Produced by Spelling Television, it was showed on Fox and on other networks around the world. Being the first series in the Beverly Hills 90210 franchise, the show followed the lives of teenagers who are living in the upscale community of Beverly Hills in California. Attending the fictitious West Beverly Hills High School and California University, the show was coined by Darren Star and Charles Rosin (executive producer). In later seasons, it was followed by E. Duke Vincent, Aaron Spelling, Steve Wasserman, Jessica Klein, and Paul Waigner.

 


The “90210” in the title refers to one of the five zip codes in the city. The plot of the story is based on the twins Brandon and Brenda who had culture shock when their parents decided to move from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Beverly Hills. The twins’ adjustment is spiced up by friendships and romantic relationships of the main characters. Some topical issues are also highlighted in this show such as animal rights, teenage suicide, teen pregnancy and many more. April is National Facial Protection Month, and Dr. Panucci and the Beach Braces Team wants to remind parents, coaches and athletes to play it safe as they prepare to suit up for recreational and organized sports.

National Facial ProtectionA child’s mouth and face can be easily injured if the proper precautions are not used while playing sports.  In fact, according to the Center for Disease Control, more than half of the 7 million sports- and recreation-related injuries that occur each year are sustained by youth as young as 5 years old… Ouch!

Last year, the National Youth Sports Safety Foundation forecasted that more than 3 million teeth would be knocked out in youth sporting events – yet, in a survey commissioned by the American Association of Orthodontists, 67% of parents admit that their child does not wear a mouth guard during organized sports. This raises a question: If mouth guards offer a simple and relatively inexpensive solution to help dramatically decrease the risk of oral and injuries, why aren’t more kids wearing this kind of facial protection?

Parents are encouraged to talk with us about the right mouth guards for their young athletes, and to urge coaches to require that young athletes wear their mouth guards at every practice and every game.
