What Makes Invisalign Unique Among Others?

invisalign

If you’re wanting straighter teeth, Invisalign is a unique treatment to give you a beautiful smile without the metal. Typical orthodontics consists of metal braces, but they are painful, alter your appearance and have to be tightened by your orthodontist on a regular basis. With this treatment, models of your teeth are used to create unique trays to adjust your smile. Every two weeks, new trays are created to continue moving your teeth until the perfect smile is achieved. It is the best orthodontic treatment towards a beautiful smile.

What’s the Difference

Unlike traditional orthodontic treatments like metal braces, this approach also makes it easier for you to brush your teeth. Since the trays are removable, you are able to clean your teeth much easier and better than with metal braces. Brackets and wires make brushing more difficult, which can lead to food and drink stains on your teeth. The clear trays do not hinder your ability to clean your teeth.

The trays are clear and invisible. With traditional orthodontics, there is no way to hide your dental work, but with Invisalign, no one will know you are adjusting your smile. This plan offers a beautiful smile without cement. Metal braces have to be physically attached to your teeth, and when the treatment is over, they have to be removed. With this route, the trays can be removed at any time, and once you are finished with treatment, nothing has to be removed from your teeth.

Braces can irritate your gums and mouth. Invisalign is comfortable and allows for treatment without pain or irritation. Even better, it’s an option for everyone. Whether you are a teen or adult, Invisalign can help make your smile better.

Are you looking for a better smile?

Do you want treatment but you don’t want to wear metal braces? Invisalign is the invisible treatment that creates beauty without the pain. With a consultation at our practice, we can determine your needs and what works best for you. It’s a unique approach to orthodontic treatment plans with the same result, a better smile for you.

As an adult, you may think that it’s too late for braces, but that is far from the truth. With Invisalign, it is never too late to adjust your smile, and your lifestyle does not have to change either. Invisalign is perfect for adults and teens because you can continue doing the things you love, all while your teeth are being straightened. With braces, certain activities are limited, but with Invisalign you can continue playing sports or instruments, eating the things you love, along with the other activities you are used to doing.

Are you considering Invisalign to treat your smile?

If so, Beach Braces Orthodontics is here to meet your needs. This unique treatment is the best alternative to traditional orthodontics. Invisible thermoplastic trays are used to adjust your teeth slowly. These trays, also called aligners, look similar to teeth-whitening trays, so no one will know you are wearing them. Each aligner is custom made to fit your smile and adjust your teeth to the perfect position.

During your consultation, we will map out the best course for your needs. The aligners will work to move your teeth slowly and without pain. You will wear your first set for two weeks, and then two weeks later you will wear a new set of aligners to continue shifting your teeth. It’s really that simple and pain-free. You might also spend less time at the orthodontist because there is no need to adjust individual brackets, as with traditional braces. Your customized aligners will replace the constant adjusting that comes with traditional metal braces.

invisalign trays

Even though you will be wearing them 20 to 22 hours a day, no one will even notice. Even better, you will not be limited to what you eat or drink as with braces. Since Invisalign is unique and removable, you can remove the aligner trays whenever you need to eat or drink. Call today to get started. Manhattan Beach Orthodontics in here to meet all your orthodontic needs.

Not sure which route to take?

Invisalign is a unique treatment that is perfect for you or your child because it is customized for every person individually. You might be dreaming of a better smile, but you’re too scared to take the leap because of your age. Maybe you are weary of how orthodontics will alter your appearance. Or maybe your teen needs braces, but they don’t want a noticeable metal mouth. Either way, Invisalign is perfect for all situations. Some of the benefits to Invisalign include:

  • A straighter smile without the pain of metal brackets and tightening
  • Easy to clean aligners that can be removed when you eat or drink
  • Enjoying your normal activities without worrying about your teeth
  • Easy-at-home care and easy brushing because of the removable trays

Invisalign’s clear plastic trays are changed every two weeks, but that’s it. You don’t need to sit in an office chair and have your wires tightened, only to sit at home in pain later. This treatment will not affect you or your child’s typical activities. You can continue your normal lifestyle and enjoy the benefits of a beautiful smile. At Manhattan Beach Orthodontics, we can plan a customized plan to fit you or your teen with Invisalign, and make you want to show off your new smile. Call today for a consultation, and we can begin you or your teen’s new and pain-free smile.

Benefits of Invisalign #1 No food restrictions.

invisalign

Orthodontic treatment is a special service for people who have varying degrees of alignment issues. Our Manhattan Beach Orthodontics firm specializes in reconstructing the smile while providing a warm atmosphere for patients. Invisalign is a revolutionary teeth alignment system that offers a wealth of benefits over traditional braces. The following are just a few of the benefits that Invisalign has over other types of orthodontic treatment such as metal devices:

No Food Restrictions

The best benefit to using the Invisalign system is that it comes with no food restrictions. The system consists of plastic aligners that fit perfectly over the patient’s teeth. The patient can remove the aligners at any time, which means that he or she will have free access to teeth cleaning. Therefore, the patient can enjoy all types of food.

Complete Discretion

Discretion is another benefit of using the system. The aligners are clear and plastic. Other people cannot see that a patient is using the aligner system without being extremely close. The orthodontist and the patient are the only two people who know about it.

Faster Correction Time

The clear plastic orthodontics system has a faster correct time than traditional braces have. Metal orthodontics systems can take up to 24 months to produce results, whereas a patient can improve within 10 months with the plastic system.

Less Pain

Standard orthodontic customers have to worry about the pain of bracket tightening. A person with the plastic system only has to swap out aligners every two weeks. Switching aligners is a painless process that eventually results in a beautiful smile and increased self-esteem.

People with alignment problems can contact our Manhattan Beach Orthodontics office for a consultation. Patricia Panucci is a compassionate orthodontist that strives for perfection and the highest level of patient comfort.

Teeth-friendly Fruits & Vegetables No. 10: Pineapples

Healthy foods

It’s important to take care of your teeth before and after braces to ensure a winning smile. One of the best ways of taking care of your teeth involves eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables on a regular basis. When it comes to teeth-friendly fruits & vegetables, pineapple can’t be beat for its delicious flavor and health benefits.

Health Benefits of Pineapple

Pineapple has long been praised for its healing powers, which is why people are often encouraged to eat it just before and after surgery in order to make recovery go much smoother. Dentists recommend it for patients undergoing oral surgery as often as doctors who are performing procedures on other areas of the body do.

One of the reasons why pineapple aids with healing is the fact that it helps the body create collagen. Collagen is an essential protein used to form the basis for bones, blood vessel walls, and skin.

Other Health Benefits of Pineapple

There are other benefits aside from healing powers that can be enjoyed from eating pineapple. A few of these unique benefits include:

• Easing inflammation, which can be especially important for anyone suffering from gum disease
• Strengthening the bones, which in turn helps strengthen teeth
• Preventing oral cancers
• Fighting infections that might occur in the mouth and gums
• Improving circulation for healthier gums

Pineapple benefits teeth best when it is eaten fresh without any added sugars or syrups. Although fresh pineapple is best, some benefits can still be enjoyed from eating canned pineapple as well.

Eating the right fruits and vegetables is just as important as any other aspect of dental care. If you’re interested in straightening your teeth, or would like to learn more ways to help keep them healthy, contact Manhattan Beach Orthodontics at 310-379-0006.

Teeth-friendly Fruits & Vegetables No. 8: Strawberries

Healthy foods

Foods that a child eats impacts both his body and teeth. Getting a child into the habit of selecting teeth-friendly fruits & vegetables can help him or her have better health for life. Some of the best foods to eat for the teeth are also good to eat for children with braces. Strawberries are among the superstars of fruits for dental health for their teeth whitening abilities, high vitamin C levels, calcium and soft texture.

Teeth Whitening

Brighter teeth begins with good oral hygiene, but a healthy diet also plays a role. The malic acid found in strawberries has been purported to help whiten teeth. This enzyme naturally whitens the teeth, but as an acid, it can damage tooth enamel. Rinse the mouth out with water before brushing the teeth to prevent this damage.

Vitamin C

Many people think of calcium as a building block of bone and teeth. That is true, but vitamin C also plays a role. The entire body requires vitamin C for functioning. A lack of vitamin C in ones diet may result in an inflammation of the gums or weakened tooth enamel. Because vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin, it needs to be consumed daily for the greatest benefits to the teeth and body. One cup of strawberries contains 140 percent of the recommended daily amount of this necessary vitamin.

Calcium

The body requires 1200 to 1500 milligrams of calcium daily, depending on age. Fast-growing teenagers require 1300 milligrams, but young children only need 800 milligrams daily. Strawberries can contribute to that total because each cup of berries contains 21 milligrams of the mineral. Enough calcium keeps the teeth strong and may prevent gum disease.

Soft texture

Children enjoy getting to choice their braces colors, but wearing braces also come with painful times of wire adjustments. Shortly after an orthodontist adjusts the wires on a child’s braces, eating may become painful. While it can be hard to get a child to eat healthfully during this time, incorporating soft, easy-to-eat foods such as strawberries and oatmeal can make the transition a little easier for both the parents and the child. Strawberries stand out for their sweetness and soft texture. While some tenderness is normal, contact the Manhattan Beach Orthodontics if the pain is severe.

A parent who feeds his or her children strawberries and other teeth-friendly fruits & vegetables starts off on the right step, but caring for the teeth is also important. When a child’s pediatric dentist recommends orthodontic, contact Manhattan Beach Orthodontics at www.beachbraces.org.

What is the Best Age for My Child to See an Orthodontist?

Orthodontist

It seems that there is an increasing number of younger children wearing braces these days. Not that long ago, it was common to see children in their pubescent years visiting the orthodontist for the first time; however, that common age has dropped drastically. Many mothers are asking, what is the best age for my child to see an orthodontist? Many of these moms may be shocked at the answer.

According to the American Association of Orthodontists, the best age to bring your child in to see an orthodontist is seven. The inquisitive mind may want to gain a more lucid perspicacity of what can possibly be accomplished at such a young age. It is important to understand that not every orthodontic issue will be treatable at the age of seven; however, bringing your child in to visit the orthodontist at this age will allow the orthodontist to effectively identify any existing or potential problems as early as possible. This will allow for the proper planning and strategies as far as preventative and corrective measures are concerned. By age seven, most orthodontic-related problems can, at least, be identified.

Deviation from Normal Patterns

Something as simple as disorder in the manner in which baby teeth fall out could be indicative of problematic issues that will need to be addressed at some point. Baby teeth normally fall out in a specific order, with their first eight primary teeth falling out between the ages of six to eight. It is also common for the child’s permanent molars to emerge during this same period. By age seven, a child should have at least four permanent incisors and four permanent molars. Deviation from the normality or this order could indicate developmental issues that may require specific attention

Spacing and Crowding

By the age of seven it will be possible for an orthodontist to determine if the child has crowding and spacing issues. Spacing issues normally refer to situations in which a tooth is lost prematurely or one does not develop properly — leaving a permanent space between teeth. These types of spaces can be problematic and will have to be addressed by the orthodontist.

Crowding general refers to a situation in which the teeth are bunched too close together. This condition may require the expansion of the arches or the removal of certain teeth.

Different Types of Braces

Obviously, one of the most commonly used tools by orthodontists is braces. Braces have the capacity to handle spacing problems, crowding and more. Not too long ago, the options, as far as braces are concerned, were quite limited; however, that has changed significantly.

Here are some of the options that are available:

Traditional braces: These are the braces that are seen most often. They are metal, and they are also highly visible. The brackets on the modern version of these braces is less conspicuous that its predecessor. Technology has also contributed to enhancing the efficacy of these braces. There are now heat-activated arch wires that have the capacity to use the subject’s body heat to promote an expedited movement process.

  • Pros: The least expensive style of all of the braces on the market
  • Cons: Highly conspicuous

Ceramic braces: Ceramic braces are almost identical in design to medical braces, but they differ in the fact they are available in tooth color or clear in order to make them more inconspicuous.

  • Pros: Not as noticeable as metal braces. Additionally, they have the capacity to move teeth quicker than traditional braces
  • Cons: More expensive that traditional braces and there is a greater proclivity toward staining

Lingual Braces: The design of lingual braces are the same as traditional braces. What makes this type of process different is the placement. Instead of the traditional outside placement, they are placed on the inside of the teeth.

  • Pros: Completely invisible from an outside view
  • Cons: More expensive than traditional braces, and they are more difficult to clean and maintain

Invisalign: Invisalign uses a process that includes a series of 18 to 30 custom-designed clear plastic aligners that resemble mouth guards. These aligners are removable and they are replaced every couple of weeks.

  • Pros: Nearly invisible, and there are no limits to what the subject can eat or drink
  • Cons: Not effective for serious orthodontic issues, and they are only available for teens and adults.

Orthodontist

When visiting Manhattan Beach Orthodontics, you will be able to consult with a specialist that will be able to advise you on what the best options are as far as braces are concerned. Your child’s specific issues may limit the options that are available.

According to Dr. Greg Jorgenson, it is best to begin screening all young patients at no later than age seven. Another common issue that can be detected and addressed at this age is vertical biting problems. A vertical biting issue is when the bites are too deep, where the top teeth cover the bottom teeth completely. One of the common causes for vertical biting problems is lower jaw that is too small.

It is also possible to discover overbite problems, which are generally indicative of a tongue or finger problem. This is something that the orthodontist can begin addressing immediately through helping to identify the destructive habit. The sooner that the destructive habit can be eliminated, the less structural issues will have to be addressed later.

Procrastination in getting your child to their first orthodontist visit can lead to the exacerbation of existing issues. Additionally, it can cause you to miss an opportunity to prevent potential issues. When your child turns seven, call Manhattan Beach Orthodontics to schedule the initial examination and consultation. The professionals a Manhattan Beach Orthodontics will provide you with the assurance that will allow you to have the confidence that your child is in good hands.

If you live in Manhattan Beach, CA, you’re in luck.

Teeth-friendly Fruits & Vegetables No. 2: Celery

Healthy foods

Take your mouth to the gym.

Take one bite into a piece of celery and prepare to get a full mouth workout! Eating celery requires some serious crunching action and all that work generates loads of saliva. Saliva not only helps you swallow that crusty piece of bread, it contains valuable proteins and minerals that protect tooth enamel, prevent tooth decay, and fight gum disease. So chew, chew, and chew some more!

Brace yourself for this…

With the average cost of braces starting at $3,000 to $5,000, there are plenty of no-no foods to avoid. The bad news is celery shows up on the list. The good news is you can still enjoy celery. Just please slice it up or cook it first! Contact Dr. Panucci at Manhattan Beach Orthodontics to learn more about foods to avoid when wearing braces.

When a toothbrush is not a toothbrush.

When you chew on a piece of celery, the naturally abrasive texture scrubs the teeth and massages the gums. And those strings! Those celery strings are nature’s dental floss. If you can’t brush right after a meal, chomp on a piece of celery (or a carrot or an apple). All those fibers pushing through your teeth and gums help to dislodge bits of food, leaving your mouth feeling cleaner and your breath smelling sweeter.

But wait, there’s more!

It goes without saying that the positive effects of reaching for teeth-friendly fruits & vegetables go beyond your mouth. The whole body will benefit from what your mouth lets in. Celery is a powerhouse of nutrition! A, C, B12, and K are just a few vitamins found in celery. Celery also delivers minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium.

To keep your mouth at the top of its game, talk to the experts at Manhattan Beach Orthodontics.
