Whiten Your Teeth

white teeth

Words of Wisdom No.10: “Conceal with Color

There are a lot of ways to make your teeth whiter. Using baking soda once a week in order to remove stains in one of the most commonly known techniques. Other techniques include the use of apple cider vinegar as it serves the same purpose with baking soda. For those who don’t want to use natural remedies, you can always consult your orthodontist for a good bleaching agent.

While the steps above take time before you could see the results, there are some other ways to get immediate results. Among them is the use of tricks. Although it doesn’t whiten your teeth directly, it gives you an illusion of whiter teeth. Good news is that ladies can always have this secret ingredient in their bags. Bad news is that this trick is only applicable for ladies.

Ladies should choose a medium coral or light red lipstick and apply daily. If you conceal the color of your lips, your teeth might look whiter if you know which color to choose. You should avoid using light-colored lipstick as it tends to bring out the yellowish color of your teeth. So if you want to make your teeth look whiter immediately, then use medium to dark shades.

This lipstick trick works daily but it doesn’t mean you’re going to stop doing everything you could in order to make your teeth whiter. It is always a better option if you can apply the permanent solution rather than just the band aid solution.

Brush Your Teeth Twice A Day

brushing teeth

Words of Wisdom No.9: “Brush Your Teeth When You First Get Out of Bed and Before You Get Back In at Night

Sleeping allows you to take rest for six to eight hours a day. It also means that you won’t be able to brush your teeth during that time hence bacteria accumulate as you sleep. When you wake up in the morning, you might smell a very bad odor because of the bacterial growth inside your mouth hence you need to immediately brush your teeth when you get out of bed.

Kathleen W. Wilson, M.D., (an internist at the Ochsner Health Center in New Orleans and author of “When You Think You Are Falling Apart”) said that there are two most crucial times for brushing your teeth. Since saliva dries up at night it is best to remove all plaque before going to sleep. Saliva keeps cavity causing plaque off your teeth. She also stressed that brushing your teeth first thing in the morning is recommended in order to brush off all the plaque accumulated during the night.

Therefore, you need to brush your teeth when you first get out of bed and before you get back in at night in order to make sure you are keeping your teeth and gums healthy all the time. Not being able to follow these steps religiously might cause your teeth to fall out even if you’re too young to look like grandma or grandpa. Doing so might take time every day but it is the only way to ensure that you get to keep your teeth in the future.

Words of Wisdom No.8: “Practice Flossing with Your Eyes Shut

Flossing teeth is necessary after eating. It helps you remove stuck food in between your teeth which is very uncomfortable if not removed. Make sure to carry around floss in your bag, your car, your desk, or even in your pocket. This comes in very handy especially if you don’t have the time to brush your teeth after eating lunch. Aside from floss, you can also bring mouthwash or a sugar-free mint in order to make sure you restore the freshness of your breath.

As flossing is a good way to remove stuck food particles in your mouth, not being able to do so because there are no mirrors is also a common hindrance. If your office doesn’t have mirrors in the bathroom or anywhere, then don’t just accept the fact that you can’t floss. There are actually a lot of things you can do and flossing without a mirror can be one of them.

You need to practice flossing with your eyes shut. You need to memorize your mouth, your teeth, gums, and everything else. If you have the skill of flossing even with your eyes shut, then you’re not going to need any mirror while doing it anywhere. You can freely floss in your car, in the pantry, or barely anywhere. This skill really comes in handy if you find yourself surrounded with people all the time or if you find it hard to look for mirrors in your workplace.

Stay Fresh!

stay fresh

Words of Wisdom No.7: “Stay Fresh

During a busy day, you might not have the time to brush your teeth as often as you want. Even though you are following the guidelines for brushing your teeth around two to four times daily, you might still find your breath smelly. So what do you need to do in order to avoid this? You don’t want to greet your major investors with a bad breath during your meeting but you don’t have the time to brush your teeth before the meeting either.

Buying a Mouth Wash

The solution is simple. Keep an alcohol-free mouth wash on you all the time. Gargling with mouth wash always saves you your precious time compared to brushing your teeth. Besides, if you don’t bring your toothbrush with you every day, then keeping a mouthwash at your side comes in very handy. When buying a mouth wash, making sure it is alcohol-free should be part of your criteria. Too much alcohol can dry out the tissues of your mouth making it more susceptible with bacteria.

So how do you know if it’s time to gargle with mouth wash? The simple step would be to lick your palm and smell it while it’s still wet. If you don’t smell anything then you are still good to go but if you smell something, then it’s time to bring that mouth wash out. In emergency situations where you don’t have a toothbrush or a mouth wash, you can resort to a sugar-free breath mint. It gives temporary effect of freshness and can help eliminate odor.

Words of Wisdom No.6: “Brush Your Teeth With Baking Soda Once A Week

No matter how much you brush on a recommended frequency, the right duration, and doing the proper routine, you may still find it hard to whiten your teeth especially if you drink a lot of coffee and smoke a lot. Aside from coffee, dark colored drinks can also influence the color of your teeth hence be very careful when choosing your drinks.Besides avoiding dark colored foods and going on a white teeth diet, you might ask if there are still other ways to whiten your teeth. Luckily, there are a hundred of ways in order to do so. Among them includes using baking soda once a week.

Brushing your teeth with baking soda once a week will help you remove stains on your teeth. The application process is just the same when you are brushing your teeth with the regular toothpaste. Just put the baking soda on your toothbrush and start doing the same routine when you brush daily. Make sure all parts of the teeth are covered as you don’t want your teeth to have some white parts and other yellowish parts.

After making sure you covered all of your teeth, wash your mouth thoroughly as well as your toothbrush. Aside from toothpaste, you can also use salt as an alternative to brush your teeth. Just make sure you spit it out after brushing so it doesn’t count as sodium intake. Brushing with salt should be done every other day if you think that your gums feel raw.

detergent foods

Take Care Of Your Teeth With “Detergent” Foods

Eat ‘Detergent’ Foods

detergent foods

Words of Wisdom No.4: “Eat ‘Detergent’ Foods

Not all of us know that there are “detergent foods”. As the name implies, detergent foods can help you clean your teeth especially in circumstances where you forgot to bring your toothbrush on a sleep over or on a camping trip. If you don’t have any means of cleaning your teeth, then try to see if you can eat some detergent foods such as apple, popcorn, celery, or carrots. These foods are crisp and therefore help clean your teeth when eaten.

A good strategy is to eat detergent foods last, after you have eaten all the other foods you wanted to eat. If some situations prevent you from brushing your teeth right away, the detergent foods mentioned above can be found easily in your friend’s kitchen or fridge. You don’t have to go all the way to store in order to buy them. Else, you should be buying a new toothbrush instead if you could somehow go to stores.

The list of detergent foods does not end on the items provided above. As long as they possess the same characteristic of crispness, then you can try to see if they qualify as detergent foods or not. Please note that eating detergent foods does not mean you don’t have to brush your teeth anymore. You still need to do so the moment you get the chance to brush your teeth.

Overall, knowing about them comes in handy in different situations and you’ll be thanking yourself for reading this one day. If there is any questions you would like to ask, please feel free to contact our office to get more advice about taking care of your teeth.

clean tongue

Clean Your Tongue Correctly

Clean Your Tongue

clean tongue

Words of Wisdom No.3: “Clean Your Tongue”

Only few have a good knowledge when it comes to hygiene. Most people do not know the importance of overall cleanliness hence their efforts are rendered useless.

Cleaning your tongue is part of your overall oral health. Not cleaning your tongue will make brushing three times a day useless as the bacteria from the tongue will still spread all throughout your mouth. So how do you clean your tongue? Simple!

You can use a tongue scraper every morning in order to remove tongue plaque. This can also freshen up your breath so you could greet every people you meet all throughout the day with confidence. If you don’t have a tongue scraper, you can use your toothbrush to gently brush your tongue. Although you can clean your tongue pretty well with a toothbrush, experts still recommend using a tongue scraper as it does the job more efficiently than toothbrushes.

Removing the plaque in your tongue prevents bacteria build up which eventually causes bad breath. No matter how much you brush your teeth, if you don’t include your tongue then you’ll still have that odor caused by bacteria.

Always remember, skipping your tongue won’t do you any good. You have to clean your mouth as a whole, including the ceiling of your mouth in which is often skipped by kids and adults. Lastly, don’t forget to also include the upper and lower inner sides of your teeth when brushing.

a white-teeth diet

A White-Teeth Diet

Go On a White-Teeth Diet

a white-teeth diet

Words of Wisdom No.1: “Go On a White-Teeth Diet”

If you are aiming to have permanently white teeth then try to consider going on a white-teeth diet. A white-teeth diet involves avoiding colored drinks such as red wine, colas, black tea, coffee, and any other dark juices or beverages.

The analogy is simple. If you put something colored in your mouth, then it will eventually stain your teeth. Since you don’t really have much control of which color of foods you eat, you can have a better control when it comes to drinks. You can always choose to drink water instead of coffee, or clear sodas instead of dark colored ones.

You also need to avoid smoking. Nicotine can build up in your teeth making it look yellowish. You should bear in mind that Nicotine builds up gradually so you may not see its effect immediately. But take note that the effects will still show in time and by then, it will be very hard to make your teeth white again.

If you cannot avoid drinking dark beverages on the other hand, what you can at least do is to brush your teeth immediately after drinking. This will lessen the time of exposure of these colored substances on your teeth. If you have noticed that you already have yellowish teeth, try using a good bleaching agent. You can buy this over-the-counter or you can also consult your orthodontist for a prescription.

Always remember, having healthy and white teeth can help you preserve them while you age. Most senior citizens lost their teeth at an early age because of negligence when it comes to oral health. Be smart, and don’t make the same mistakes.
